About the Cartwheel Inn
The Cartwheel Inn is located in Whitsbury, where Hampshire meets Dorset and Wiltshire surrounded by stunning countryside. Our 18th-century building was once a farm cottage and housed a wheelwright and a village bakery (you can see the oven next to the bar). We are in the perfect location to visit before and after a nice walk, you may even see a future champion racehorse. Behind the Cartwheel is Whitsbury Manor Stables, the former home of Desert Orchid, Cheltenham Gold Cup and Irish Grand National winner. They also had a group 1 winner of the Sussex Stakes, Mohaather, bred at Whitsbury Manor Stud.

Meet our chef
The Cartwheel Inn is pleased to introduce, award-winning chef, Paul Somerville. With over 30 years of experience working in professional kitchens, Paul is leading the team here at The Cartwheel Inn, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and a sumptuous love of food.
Originally from Lochmaben, Paul started his career with a summer job at The Creebridge House Hotel in Newton Stewart and it was here that he developed his love of cooking.
Moving south, Paul worked at the Michelin-starred L’Ortolan restaurant, near Reading, Berkshire. To be nearer to his family he moved back to Creebridge, where he developed his career at The Creebridge and subsequently The Selkirk Arms. In 2015 Paul was named Chef of the Year in the Dumfries & Galloway Life Awards.
Whether creating a simple but delicious dish or experimenting with a new menu, we are committed to sourcing and using local produce.
